FSU Grad Turned Analyst Calls in Sick For First Time in 35 Years After Mike Norvell's Firing

Rick Ballou, a Florida State graduate and radio analyst for 1010 XL/92.5 FM, announced on X that he would take a day off work for the first time in 35 years, joking that the news of Mike Norvell's dismissal gave him a severe hangover. The comment served as a humorous outlet for the frustration felt by the Seminoles fanbase following a 36-24 defeat to Clemson, which dropped the team's record to 3-5.

Norvell's tenure ended with an overall record of 41-39, a stretch that included a perfect 13-0 regular season in 2023 but was marred by a 2-10 campaign in 2024 and a 5-7 finish in 2025.

The coaching shakeout extends beyond the head coach, with defensive coordinator Tony White and defensive backs coach Evan Cooper also being let go. Rick Stockstill has been named interim head coach, while Ernie Sims assumes the role of interim defensive coordinator.

The university faces a significant financial obligation, with Norvell's contract buyout estimated to fall between $47 million and $50 million, subject to potential offsets.
