New Zealand’s ODI series against India has begun on a difficult note, with two of their most experienced batters forced out of action by injury. Mark Chapman, a key player in the middle order, will miss the entire five-match series after aggravating a hamstring issue that has extended his recovery time by at least two weeks.
Rachin Ravindra, another vital contributor, has also been ruled out due to a shoulder problem, with his return prioritized for the upcoming Test series rather than the white-ball fixtures. The absences leave the Black Caps scrambling to adjust their batting lineup, with wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert stepping in for all five ODIs as the primary replacement.
Henry Nicholls will open for the first three matches, while Dean Foxcroft will join the squad for the final two games in Auckland, where the series kicks off on November 4. Head coach Rob Walter acknowledged the setback but expressed confidence in the team’s depth, noting that both Chapman and Ravindra are working toward full fitness for future commitments.
