The key talking points from Pocognoli's bold Scotland squad

New Scotland manager Sébastien Pocognoli is bringing tactical change and fresh personnel ahead of an upcoming four-fixture sequence in early October, leaning on the three-player central defensive structure he previously deployed while managing Monaco and Union Saint-Gilloise. Seeking rapid, assertive defenders who excel in high-line distribution, he can rely on established figures Scott McKenna, Jack Hendry, Kieran Tierney, and left wing-back Andy Robertson, alongside right-side choices Nathan Patterson, Aaron Hickey, and promising youngster Colby Donovan.

To bolster the backline, Pocognoli has awarded maiden call-ups to three uncapped centre-halves: Swansea's Stephen Welsh, Stoke's left-sided defender Luke Graham, and 25-year-old Brondby skipper Luis Binks, an internationally eligible former MLS, Serie A, and Championship player whose background includes stints with Bologna and Como.

With Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland sidelined by physical ailments and Lyndon Dykes omitted entirely, attacking berths are wide open alongside wide prospects Ben Doak, Findlay Curtis, and McPake, as well as emerging Hearts teenager James Wilson. Hull City striker Oli McBurnie returns to the national setup following a five-year exile, joined in contention by Sassuolo forward Kieron Bowie, who recently found the net against Juventus, and Sevilla number nine Robbie Ure, who earned a move to Spain through prolific form in Sweden.
