Ahead of the upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand following a 3-2 T20I victory, Ajinkya Rahane has emphasized the immense value that veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma bring to the squad. Shubman Gill is set to lead the side for the opening three games, while Kohli and Sharma make their return to the format.
Rahane, who retired from professional cricket in July 2026, explained during a broadcast on Sony LIV that their extensive background helps younger teammates navigate changing match conditions and handle both success and failure.
Rahane noted that the pair's decades of experience provide unmatched knowledge, encouraging younger players to actively seek advice from the senior batters during fixtures. He expressed personal enthusiasm for watching them bat again, pointing out that their enduring passion and class give a distinct advantage to the entire team and captain Gill.
