German icon draws striking comparison between Mourinho’s Real Madrid and Simeone’s Atletico Madrid: ‘Textbook counterattacks’

Lothar Matthaus has drawn a striking parallel between Jose Mourinho's current Real Madrid squad and Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, praising both sides for their defensive solidity and aggressive tactical identity. Speaking to Diario AS, the German legend highlighted how Mourinho's men willingly concede possession to exploit opponents through blistering attacking transitions and vertical speed, pointing to their recent outing against Barcelona as a prime example.

Matthaus specifically credited players like Yan Diomande, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappe for executing these textbook counterattacks.
