Australian head coach Andrew McDonald is defending the decision to persist with Marnus Labuschagne despite the batter's prolonged slump. Labuschagne managed only four runs across two innings during a 176-run loss in Cape Town, extending a difficult stretch where he has averaged 23.66 in 16 innings since the Ashes and failed to record a century in over three years.
Former player Simon Katich has publicly questioned the selection panel, which includes George Bailey, Tony Dodemaide, and McDonald, for continuing to back the struggling batter. While McDonald maintains that international experience is beneficial regardless of form, Labuschagne now faces significant uncertainty regarding his spot in the upcoming home series against New Zealand.
