French analyst Frédéric Verdier recently cast doubt on Alexander Zverev claiming the ATP top spot, asserting that a healthy Novak Djokovic remains superior and pointing out that Zverev faced only three top-ten opponents during his ascent. Verdier attributed the German player's ranking milestone partly to extended injury absences affecting Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Meanwhile, Zverev acknowledged his new status in an essay titled My Point on the ATP website, celebrating his two Grand Slam victories and expressing awe at reaching the summit. The German star recently reached the semifinals of the Vienna Open after a defeat against Alex de Minaur and is preparing to face Lorenzo Musetti at the Paris Masters.
