Seventeen-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic secured her first career victory on the WTA Tour in Hong Kong by defeating former major winner Sofia Kenin. Having entered the main draw as a lucky loser following Leylah Fernandez's withdrawal, the British teenager overcame an opponent ranked more than 200 spots higher during a three-set battle lasting over two hours.
Stojsavljevic learned she would be competing just sixty minutes before taking the court with minimal preparation. After building an early advantage, she withstood a comeback from her American opponent before clinching the final set.
In the upcoming second round, she is scheduled to match up against Zeynep Sonmez from Turkey.
