Tiger Woods has confirmed that his design firm, TGR Design, will lead the complete redesign of the 18-hole private Tam O'Shanter Club in Brookville, New York. The project is being executed in collaboration with the Armchair Collective, a private club operator aiming to establish a network of distinctive golf facilities across the country.
The 148-acre property, which originally opened in 1962 and underwent renovations by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1968 and David Postlethwait in 1999, has been dormant since 2021 after previous development plans were halted due to arsenic contamination in the soil.
Following a zoning amendment in Brookville that permits for-profit golf operations, the Armchair Collective purchased the site in September, and ground-clearing work has already commenced ahead of construction starting next spring. The new development will feature a clubhouse, member cottages, a performance center, and a 20,000-square-foot putting green modeled after the Himalayas course at St.
Andrews.
Located approximately 13 miles from Bethpage Black, where Woods claimed his 2002 U.S. Open victory, the project marks a significant step in his post-competitive career.
Woods, who has not played in an official PGA Tour event since missing the cut at the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, cited his fond memories of the Long Island region in a statement. His most recent competitive appearance was at the TGL Finals in March, an event that took place just days before his arrest for driving under the influence on Jupiter Island.
While questions remain regarding his participation in the upcoming Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, the announcement solidifies his current focus on course architecture.
