Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has stepped away from international cricket after nearly two decades at the top level. In an announcement made via *The Final Word* podcast, the 38-year-old confirmed he will retire from all formats, including Test and 50-over matches for Victoria, marking the end of a storied career.
His decision follows Australia’s recent squad selection for the upcoming series against England, where Maxwell was omitted—a move that dashed his hopes of bidding farewell at his home ground, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, in a final international appearance. The squad’s emphasis on youth in short-format cricket signaled the end of his international journey, though he will continue competing in domestic T20s and Big Bash League games for the foreseeable future.
Maxwell, who retired from One-Day Internationals last year, cited the need to prioritize his body ahead of the remaining tournaments in his career, acknowledging the physical toll of elite cricket at his age.
