World No. 83 Rinky Hijikata stunned 24‑time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic at the Paris Masters, ending the Serbian’s bid for a spot in the year‑end ATP Finals.
After taking the first set, Djokovic faltered in the decider as Hijikata’s aggressive forehand secured a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory, marking the Australian’s biggest career win and the lowest‑ranked player to beat Djokovic this season.
The loss came after Djokovic had briefly revived his chances following defeats to Frances Tiafoe, Rafael Jodar and Alex de Minaur, while fellow competitors such as Arthur Fils clinched their own Finals berths. The result adds to a day of upsets in Paris, which also saw Lorenzo Musetti defeat Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev fall to Ignacio Buse.
