Alexander Zverev suffers straight-sets defeat in first match as world No 1

Top-ranked Alexander Zverev experienced a disappointing opening match in his new position as world number one, falling in straight sets to Lorenzo Musetti at the Paris Masters. Zverev initially held a commanding lead in the opening tiebreak before the Italian surged back, eventually closing out the straight-sets victory after an hour and forty minutes of play.

Musetti capitalized on his strong late-season momentum following a challenging year affected by injuries. Meanwhile, the tournament also featured Arthur Fils securing his spot in the ATP Finals alongside a retirement tribute for Gael Monfils.
