Man United vs Roma referee slammed over soft penalty and potential Maguire red card

Italian sports media heavily criticized Spanish official Jesús Gil Manzano following a Champions League encounter where Manchester United defeated Roma three goals to two. Publications took issue with a disputed penalty call converted by Bruno Fernandes after Matheus Cunha tangled with Gianluca Mancini inside the area, alongside a subsequent retake granted due to encroachment by Bryan Cristante before Devis Stiven Vasquez Llach made the initial save.

Further controversy arose over a second-half incident involving Harry Maguire, who was already booked when he brought down Santiago Castro and avoided a second yellow card for unsporting behavior. Outlets including Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport assigned low ratings to the referee, arguing that he mismanaged key rulings during the match.
