The Indian contingent for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Para Asian Games has grown to 168 athletes after the Sports Ministry approved the inclusion of two Boccia players, Sachin Chamaria and Anjali Devi. This late addition brings the total number of participants to 168, supported by 113 officials, including coaches, medical staff, and Paralympic Committee representatives, raising the overall contingent size to 281.
Boccia, a precision sport played by athletes with motor skill disabilities, will now feature Indian representation in individual events, with Chamaria and Devi each accompanied by one coach and two ramp operators during competition.
The Indian team’s roster is smaller than in the 2023 Hangzhou Games, where 303 athletes competed, due to stricter quota restrictions and the exclusion of disciplines like Blind Chess, Para-Rowing, and Para-Canoeing. Para athletics, previously India’s strongest discipline with 123 athletes in Hangzhou, has been reduced to 62 participants this time.
Despite the smaller contingent, India aims to build on its previous success, having won 108 medals—including 27 gold—in the last edition, with athletics and badminton leading the medal tally.
