Two-time Olympic champion Michele Gisin announced her retirement on Wednesday, ending a career that spanned more than a decade after a serious downhill training crash in St. Moritz last December.
The 32‑year‑old Swiss skier, who captured gold in the Alpine combined at both the 2018 Pyeongchang and 2022 Beijing Games and added a super‑G bronze in Beijing, said she was grateful for her health and ready for the next chapter following a period of reflection.
Gisin’s injuries from the St. Moritz accident included damage to her neck, knee and wrist, and she only returned to the slopes in September before deciding to step away.
She is married to Italian racer Luca De Aliprandini, a former world‑championship silver medalist, and follows in the footsteps of her older sister Dominique Gisin, the 2014 Olympic downhill champion. Michele leaves the sport as one of Switzerland’s most decorated all‑event athletes, with two Olympic combined titles, a super‑G bronze, two world‑championship silver medals and 21 World Cup podiums.
