Tommy Tuberville, a former Auburn Tigers head coach with a storied career spanning over two decades, has secured a historic political victory, becoming Alabama’s next governor. Tuberville defeated Democratic challenger Doug Jones in the November 4 election, capturing just over 4% more of the vote than his opponent.
His win follows a successful tenure in the U.S. Senate, where he first ran against Jones in 2020 and won decisively with over 60% of the vote.
Tuberville’s political ascent comes after a coaching career marked by both triumphs and challenges, including a perfect 13-0 season with Auburn in 2004, earning him National Coach of the Year honors. He led the Tigers to a 7-3 record in the Iron Bowl series against Alabama during his tenure, including a six-game winning streak from 2002 to 2007.
Tuberville will now succeed Governor Kay Ivey, taking office in January 2027.
