Chennai Super Kings are considering a major roster overhaul ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction, with the futures of two high-profile young signings hanging in the balance. Prashant Veer, the 20-year-old Uttar Pradesh all-rounder acquired for ₹14.2 crore in last year’s auction, has struggled to justify his hefty price tag, managing just 90 runs and zero wickets in six matches.
His modest top score of 43 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru has left franchise officials questioning whether retaining him is the best use of their resources. In contrast, wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma has shown more promise, amassing 295 runs at an average of 32.77, including a standout 71 against Lucknow Super Giants, which could strengthen his case for retention despite similar investment in his contract.
CSK’s financial strategy may also play a role, as releasing Veer could free up funds to bolster other areas of the squad ahead of the December 16 auction in Goa, where their purse is expected to expand to ₹7.4 crore due to the salary cap increase. The franchise has until November 15 to finalize their decisions, leaving room for surprises in their retention strategy.
