Joan Mir’s MotoGP return at Sepang ended prematurely on Sunday after dizziness resurfaced during the Malaysian Grand Prix, forcing the 26-time race winner to retire from 10th place on lap nine. The Spaniard had missed the past four rounds recovering from fatigue-related vision issues, but showed early promise in Malaysia, securing a strong Qualifying 2 result and finishing 16th in the Sprint after a wet-bike pit stop.
Despite feeling well during the weekend, the intense 36-degree heat exacerbated his condition, prompting Mir to acknowledge lingering concerns about his physical readiness. He expressed disappointment in the setback, noting that his heart rate under race pressure still triggers dizziness, and emphasized that further medical evaluation is needed before his next outing in Qatar on October 18.
Team-mate Luca Marini, meanwhile, delivered Honda’s best result of the day with a seventh-place finish.
