Chennai Super Kings are reportedly preparing to release left-arm spinner Prashant Veer ahead of the November 15 retention deadline, with plans to potentially reacquire him at the December 16 mini-auction in Goa. The 20-year-old Uttar Pradesh player was acquired by CSK in the IPL 2026 auction for Rs 14.2 crore but struggled during the season, managing just 90 runs and no wickets in five batting innings, including a highest score of 43.
His release would free up a significant portion of CSK’s salary cap, increasing their available funds from Rs 2.4 crore to Rs 7.4 crore after accounting for the annual cap increment, giving them greater flexibility in the upcoming auction. The move reflects CSK’s willingness to take a calculated risk on underperforming talent, especially after fellow Rs 14.2 crore IPL 2026 acquisition Kartik Sharma delivered far stronger returns for Lucknow Super Giants, scoring 295 runs at an average of 32.77 in 11 matches.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have dismissed speculation about trading South African all-rounder Marco Jansen, despite his mixed IPL 2026 numbers—9 wickets at an economy over 10 and a batting tally of 51 runs—while his recent Test series heroics and top ICC rankings keep him in contention for retention.
