Everton’s American owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), have announced they are placing the Premier League club back on the market after less than a year in charge, marking a swift reversal of their initial optimism. TFG acquired a 99.5% stake in Everton in December 2024 for over £400 million, rescuing the club from financial turmoil and the instability left by Farhad Moshiri’s ownership.
However, their hands-off approach—highlighted by chairman Dan Friedkin’s absence from matches and his lack of communication with manager David Moyes—has left the club adrift, with Moyes revealing he only learned of the potential sale from public reports. Analysts suggest TFG may seek between £750 million and £800 million, accounting for Everton’s £468 million in debt, though the club’s strong Premier League status, passionate fanbase, and nearly completed new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock could attract significant interest—particularly from U.S.
buyers. Moyes, who returned in January 2025, has criticized the ownership’s disconnect, calling the club ‘over-ready’ for new investment but expressing frustration over the summer’s transfer window failures and the uncertainty surrounding leadership.
