Novak Djokovic’s historic season took another unexpected turn at the Paris Masters as he fell to a shocking upset in the second round. The 39-year-old Serbian tennis legend, chasing a 103rd career title and his ninth consecutive ATP Finals appearance, was defeated by qualifier Rinky Hijikata in a three-set battle.
Hijikata, who entered the tournament through the qualifying draw, secured the victory with a 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 triumph, effectively ending Djokovic’s bid to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin. The loss marks a rare setback for Djokovic, who had previously overcome a late scare against Valentin Vacherot in the first round to advance past the opening hurdle.
