Mercedes recently disclosed that newly crowned world champion Andrea Kimi Antonelli nearly failed to finish the Mexican Grand Prix after a power unit issue caused a cracked oil sump. Deputy team principal Bradley Lord explained that the driver noticed engine trouble during the closing stages, managing to limp the car home despite a heavily leaking bottom end.
Meanwhile, teammate George Russell faced his own mechanical hurdle at the start when an energy rule de-rate stripped him of early momentum heading into the opening corner.
