Bruno Fernandes admits Michael Carrick was right to drop him in fiery interview

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes acknowledged Michael Carrick’s decision to bench him was justified after a public criticism of the manager’s tactics. Fernandes had faced backlash following his comments after a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, where he criticized the team’s lack of pressing.

As a result, Carrick left him out of the starting lineup for the next match, a 3-0 Premier League loss to Bournemouth. However, Fernandes redeemed himself in a fiery post-match interview after United’s dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Roma, scoring a re-taken penalty to help secure their first victory in 10 games.

He admitted the manager’s choice was fair, stating that leadership requires accountability, even as he defended his belief in Carrick and the club’s staff. The two later held talks, leading to Fernandes being restored to the starting lineup for United’s next match against Chelsea.

Despite the team’s struggles—including a three-game losing streak and just seven Premier League points this season—Fernandes emphasized the importance of the Roma win for morale, insisting the focus remained on collective success rather than individual concerns.
