Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s preemptive praise for Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith has only grown more justified after Smith’s record-shattering performance against Iowa. In a 31–14 victory, Smith set the Buckeyes’ all-time records with 11 receptions, 206 yards, and two touchdowns, surpassing previous marks held by Emeka Egbuka (receptions) and Chris Olave (touchdowns).
His 207 career catches and 3,381 receiving yards now lead Ohio State in both categories, while his 36 receiving touchdowns tie him for third in Big Ten history, just three behind the conference record. Chase, a former Triple Crown winner and NFL 1,000-yard receiver, had called Smith one of the best college receivers just days before, singling out his contested-catch ability as elite—qualities Smith showcased in dominating Iowa’s defense, which had no answers for him all game.
