Matt Rhule Kicks Off Indiana Week With a “Lanterns” Cameo

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule made an unexpected appearance in the season finale of *Lanterns*, the HBO series set in Rushville, Nebraska. The cameo, filmed during the summer of 2025, came as part of a storyline where the show’s protagonist, Hal Jordan, engages in a conversation about Nebraska football with an alien character.

Rhule, who had previously befriended showrunner Chris Mundy, described the experience as a fun opportunity to promote the Cornhuskers brand nationally, though he dismissed any thoughts of pursuing acting full-time. His daughters, however, were reportedly more invested in ensuring he delivered his lines correctly than he was himself.

The episode also subtly ties into Nebraska’s recruiting landscape, featuring a fictional 5-star quarterback recruit whose storyline aligns with the show’s broader narrative arc.
