Afghanistan climbs to No. 6 in ODIs, attains its highest ranking

Following a successful tri-series campaign in Zimbabwe where the squad defeated both the hosts and Bangladesh, the Afghanistan men's cricket team has climbed to sixth position in the latest ICC ODI rankings. This milestone marks the highest standing the program has ever achieved since obtaining official ODI status in 2009.

The upward movement follows a preceding four-to-zero series sweep against Ireland and secures a continuation of strong momentum following earlier qualification achievements for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Meanwhile, India maintained the number one position in the standings, while England dropped to eighth following a difficult tri-series in Pakistan.
