‘Great history’ – Former LSU head coach expresses interest in Florida State job

November 4, 2026

Following a difficult start to their current campaign resulting in a record of three wins and five losses, Florida State dismissed Mike Norvell from his position as head coach over the weekend. Rick Stockstill has stepped into the role temporarily while the administration conducts a search for a permanent leader.

Among those linked to the vacancy are Manny Diaz, Eliah Drinkwitz, and Deion Sanders, though recent statements indicate former LSU boss Brian Kelly is also very keen on taking over.

Kelly recently lost his job at LSU during the 2025 season after compiling a thirty-four and fourteen record with that program, and he also spent twelve years leading Notre Dame. Speaking about the Florida State opening, Kelly described the institution as a brand-driven destination with a rich tradition and noted that guiding the squad would be a distinct privilege.

Florida State is presently attempting to recover its national prominence following a string of subpar seasons following their undefeated regular season and conference championship run in 2023.
