Week 1 inactives for Chiefs

Ahead of their Monday Night Football regular season kickoff against the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs disclosed their roster status, benching two starting athletes for the divisional tilt. Among the notable absences along the offensive front is left tackle Josh Simmons, who has been sidelined since the middle of August due to a back ailment.

In his place, Kansas City turned to undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson to shield Patrick Mahomes, while Garrett Nussmeier was designated as the squad's emergency quarterback. Additionally, defensive lineman Chris Jones missed Saturday's practice session but avoided an outright inactive designation.

On the other side of the ball, Denver entered the AFC West battle fielding a largely healthy roster, though the team still deactivated six contributors, including running back Tyler Badie. That roster move cleared space for first-year tailback Jonah Coleman to see action in the opener.

The game also features notable returns under center, with Mahomes suiting up following a torn ACL sustained in 2025, and Broncos signal-caller Bo Nix taking the field after bouncing back from an ankle problem.
