In a Week 1 showdown that felt like a postseason preview, the Buffalo Bills secured a 36-31 road victory over the Houston Texans. A touchdown by Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen sparked a decisive fourth-quarter swing, earning the Bills their first win in Houston since 2006.

Running back David Montgomery provided an impressive spark for the Texans, but defensive lapses and a pair of late turnovers ultimately undermined the home squad.

Following the game, Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans defended quarterback C.J. Stroud, noting the attack generated plenty of scoring to secure a win while praising Stroud's command despite late-game difficulties and an emphasis on ball protection during the final possession.

However, the defensive collapse drew harsh internal criticism, with pass rusher Will Anderson openly challenging the unit after it surrendered 36 points in the defeat.
