Sunderland are in the race to sign midfielder with £33m release clause

Sunderland find themselves among several English clubs tracking Almeria midfielder Stefan Dzodic, though Atletico Madrid currently holds the strongest position in the race. The twenty-one-year-old French-born Serbian international is tied to his current Spanish club until 2032 and carries a release clause valued at thirty-three million pounds.

Atletico has already initiated talks with representatives of the player as a long-term prospect, potentially forcing interested Premier League sides to accelerate their plans.

Alongside Sunderland, English outfits Bournemouth, Brentford, and Brighton are monitoring the young talent, who joined Almeria in a 2025 free transfer from Montpellier. Dzodic has accumulated ten appearances across all competitions this season, contributing one goal and one assist while also making his senior international debut for Serbia.

Almeria faces no pressure to part with the midfielder during the January window unless his release clause is met by an interested suitor.
