The San Francisco 49ers kicked off their season with an unexpected 27-7 triumph over the Los Angeles Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Entering the Thursday showdown as underdogs, San Francisco controlled the contest and defeated their heavily favored NFC West rivals by twenty points.

The victory was somewhat bittersweet on the injury front, however, as first-year receiver De'Zhaun Stribling suffered an injury during the contest.
