Portugal’s national team has opened a disciplinary investigation against Cristiano Ronaldo following his dramatic walkout from the squad during the Nations League match against Norway on September 27. The 41-year-old superstar, who holds the record for most goals (146) in Portugal’s history across 234 appearances, left the team after remaining an unused substitute in a 2-1 victory over Norway.
Ronaldo later released a lengthy statement citing a 'breach of trust' with head coach Jorge Jesus as the reason for his departure. The Portuguese Football Federation announced on October 9 that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated, imposing a provisional suspension on Ronaldo until further review.
The investigation, marked as urgent, excludes public disclosure until its conclusion, while Ronaldo missed Portugal’s subsequent Nations League wins over Denmark and Norway, leaving his international future uncertain. Jesus, however, has not ruled out Ronaldo’s return, stating in a press conference that the forward would be welcome back if he chose to rejoin the team.
Ronaldo has since resumed playing for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, scoring in his first match back on October 6.
