Newcastle United spent £200m on potential but failed to recruit character or quality - and it's becoming a growing problem

Pressure is mounting on Matthias Jaissle after Everton secured a third consecutive Premier League victory at St James' Park courtesy of a second-half strike from Thierno Barry. The result dropped Newcastle United down to 13th place in the table following their third loss in four matches, leaving supporters thoroughly frustrated with the current direction of the club.

Despite a summer outlay exceeding £200 million for eight acquisitions following the exits of figures like Eddie Howe, Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, and Sandro Tonali, sporting director Ross Wilson's strategy of trusting youth and taking risks has faced heavy scrutiny.
