Leicestershire has officially been relegated from the top flight of the County Championship following an unsuccessful challenge against a points deduction. The club was penalized for preparing an inadequate pitch during their August victory over Glamorgan, leading to the loss of 19 points and an additional eight-point sanction.
Despite a brief reprieve that saw eight points returned, the appeals panel maintained the original ruling, citing a lack of regulatory knowledge and rejecting new testimony from an outside expert. Chief executive Emma White expressed significant frustration regarding the process but stated the club intends to move forward.
The pitch in question had previously been labeled sub-standard by officials, effectively sealing the team's fate at the bottom of the standings.
