India seized complete command during the opening T20I clash in New Delhi after opting to bowl first against Afghanistan. Jasprit Bumrah made an immediate impact upon his return from injury by striking in the opening over to remove Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Afghanistan's attempt to stabilize faltered when sharp work in the field by Ishan Kishan triggered the run out of Zadran. Arshdeep Singh quickly struck next by having Sediqullah Atal caught by Bumrah at short third, leaving the visitors three down inside five overs.

The collapse continued through the remainder of the powerplay as Axar Patel dismissed Gulbadin Naib in the sixth over. Varun Chakaravarthy then dismantled Darwish's stumps in the seventh over, reducing Afghanistan to 43 for 5 before they eventually limped to 56 for 5 at the midway point of their innings.
