Alpine’s Mexican Grand Prix hopes were dashed by a pair of yellow-flag penalties that wiped out a potential double points finish for the team. Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly initially crossed the line in eighth and tenth, respectively, but climbed to seventh and ninth after Oscar Piastri’s 10-second penalty for his collision with Arvid Lindblad.
However, both Alpine drivers were later penalized for failing to slow sufficiently under yellow flags following Piastri’s crash. Colapinto received a 10-second time penalty for passing a single waved yellow flag, dropping him to 15th, while Gasly faced a 30-second stop-and-go penalty—converted to a time drop—that relegated him to 17th, the last classified finisher.
The penalties also handed Racing Bulls six extra points, widening their lead over Alpine in the constructors’ championship battle for fifth place. Meanwhile, the rulings promoted Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, and Ryo Hirakawa into the points-scoring positions, with Hirakawa securing Haas’ first point of the season on his debut.
