Colts announce waiving of former starting cornerback

The Indianapolis Colts have parted ways with defensive back Johnathan Edwards, officially releasing the former starter from their roster. The transaction follows the team's difficult 41-23 opening-week defeat against the Baltimore Ravens, where the defense struggled to contain Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry while surrendering numerous explosive gains.

Although quarterback Daniel Jones was available to play, Indianapolis had entered that contest short-handed with six inactive players, including healthy scratch DJ Giddens.

In that Week 1 matchup, rookie cornerback Justin Walley faced notable challenges in coverage, while an unnamed early-round draft choice failed to see any playing time. A bright spot for the franchise came via running back Jonathan Taylor, who surpassed 120 total yards and found the end zone twice despite the blowout result.

Following the setback, Taylor publicly voiced faith in the squad's outlook, even as a franchise Hall of Honor member issued a sharp wake-up call regarding the group's early-season performance.
