Chiefs News: Commitment to Jumbo packages paid off in Week 1

The Kansas City Chiefs opened their 2026 season with a decisive 31-10 triumph against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night, securing their first victory since November 2025. Kansas City found success utilizing jumbo formations, with Khyiris Tonga demonstrating his multifaceted skill set along the line.

Newcomer Kenneth Walker III paced an active rushing attack, while Patrick Mahomes took the field in good physical health despite facing difficulties throughout the contest.

Several first-year contributors stepped into immediate roles during the opener, including Emmett Johnson, R Mason Thomas, Khalil Benson, and Mansoor Delane, though Cyrus Allen logged limited action. The win was clouded by injuries on the defensive side, as two starters were knocked out of the game.

Following an injury concern for Delane, head coach Andy Reid provided minimal specifics, prompting the front office to pursue additional depth at cornerback.
