Chiefs make 2 practice squad elevations ahead of season opener

Heading into their Monday Night Football season opener against the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs have elevated two practice squad members to their active game-day roster. Kansas City enters the matchup managing notable roster adjustments, having ruled out two regular starters including left tackle Josh Simmons.

Consequently, the team plans to give undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson the starting nod at left tackle to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes, while star defender Chris Jones missed Saturday's practice session but remains eligible to play.

The visiting Broncos enter the Week 1 rivalry contest fully healthy and have made corresponding moves of their own. Denver promoted fullback Adam Prentice and long snapper Mitchell Fraboni from their practice unit to bolster their lineup under the primetime lights.
