Sidney McGill made history at the 2026 Lazer Canadian Cyclo-cross Championships in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, securing her first elite women’s national title with a dominant performance. The 27-year-old rider from Materiaal-Lastig crossed the finish line over four minutes ahead of the field, capping off a strong start to her season that included three UCI victories and podium finishes in nearly every race.
Sarina Daigle of Passion Project and Siobhan Kelly of Black Dog Racing completed the podium, while the defending champion, four-time national titleholder Maghalie Rochette, was absent due to pregnancy. The event also saw standout results in the Under-23 and junior categories, with Nico Knoll and Alexa Haviland each claiming solo victories in their respective divisions.
The championships took place at Hardwood Ski and Bike, a four-season outdoor venue north of Barrie, featuring a challenging 3km course packed with natural obstacles, sandy stretches, and steep climbs. The race highlighted the depth of Canadian talent, with multiple riders delivering strong performances across all age groups.
McGill’s triumph marks a significant milestone, following her elite Pan American title win in Missoula last year, and sets the stage for her continued dominance in the coming season.
