Caitlin Clark reflected on the WNBA’s rapid expansion and growing visibility during an appearance on *TODAY*, highlighting how the league has evolved since her rookie season in 2021. She noted the addition of three new teams—Portland, Toronto, and the Golden State Valkyries—since 2024, with the Valkyries clinching the 2025 championship in their second year, marking the first WNBA Finals Game 7 in history.
Clark, who recalled limited TV coverage of women’s basketball as a child, praised the league’s momentum, predicting it will grow to 18 teams by 2030, including franchises in Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia. The expansion teams, each backed by NBA ownership groups, paid a $250 million fee, signaling strong investment in the league’s future.
Clark also emphasized the expanded playoff format, which now features three-game series in the first and second rounds, adding more games for fans.
