Manchester United dodged a bullet but Old Trafford chief could still make same mistake

Reports indicate that before the 2024 FA Cup final against Manchester City, football director Jason Wilcox advocated for Russell Martin as a potential successor to Erik ten Hag. Fortunately, club leadership rejected that proposal, avoiding an appointment that could have mirrored Martin's subsequent struggles with stubborn tactical approaches in the top flight.

Following that period, Manchester United ultimately brought in Ruben Amorim to lead the squad in November 2024. Meanwhile, Wilcox now faces scrutiny regarding his decision-making process after these internal candidate discussions came to light.
