The Buffalo Bills have activated two practice-squad players ahead of their Monday Night Football showdown with the Los Angeles Rams, addressing key positional injuries. Defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis, 28, returns after a three-game suspension tied to an off-field incident with the New York Jets last season.
Mathis, who joined Buffalo midway through 2025 and re-signed in the offseason, has shown flashes of his pass-rushing ability, recording five tackles and a sack in three preseason games this year. His return to the active roster comes after being released earlier this season and promptly re-signed to the practice squad, marking his 2026 debut if activated for the game.
On offense, veteran wide receiver Trent Sherfield Sr., 30, has been elevated to bolster a Bills receiving corps dealing with injuries. Sherfield, who spent the offseason with the team in his second stint with Buffalo, caught all seven targets for 76 yards in the preseason.
His addition follows the absence of key players like Ed Oliver, Joshua Palmer, T.J. Sanders, and DJ Moore, creating an opportunity for practice-squad contributors to step up.
The Bills also made roster adjustments, releasing outside linebacker Mike Danna to accommodate cornerback Anthony Kendall on the 53-man roster ahead of the matchup.
