Aryna Sabalenka upset at China Open

The surprises in Beijing continued as Aryna Sabalenka became the second top seed to exit the tournament unexpectedly, following the earlier departure of Elena Rybakina. The world number two fell in straight sets to the thirty-fourth ranked Nikola Bartunkova, despite her opponent winning fewer than half of her first serves.

Although this early exit stings, Sabalenka has already secured her spot in the upcoming WTA Finals and previously enjoyed a dominant spring run that included capturing both titles during the Sunshine Double. Her elimination leaves the bracket wide open for remaining contenders such as Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, and Naomi Osaka to chase the championship.
