Alcaraz advances to Tokyo semifinals after Shapovalov injury

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz moved through to the Japan Open semifinals on Sunday after Denis Shapovalov had to abandon their quarterfinal match due to a hip issue. Alcaraz held a 7-6 (4), 2-1 advantage when the Canadian competitor stopped playing following eighty-two minutes on court.

The defending champion previously competed at the Laver Cup and will next face fellow countryman Jaume Munar, who defeated Kyrian Jacquet in straight sets.
