Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 Open champion, has announced his departure from LIV Golf and the Southern Guards GC, citing a desire for a more manageable schedule to remain competitive. He plans to return to the DP World Tour in 2027, after having won two South African tournaments in late 2023.
Despite his time with the league, he struggled in major championships, making only two cuts over five years, compared to three top-three finishes in 2021.
Other players including Jon Rahm, Adrian Meronk, David Puig, Charles Howell III, Thomas Pieters, and Abraham Ancer have also left or signaled their exit. A court recently voided contracts for players like Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Bubba Watson, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Lucas Herbert, Harold Varner III, and Michael La Sasso, while Sergio Garcia has terminated his deal.
Joaquin Niemann is reportedly considering leaving. With the only public commitments for LIV 2.0 by the October 25 deadline are Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele, and Ben Campbell.
Bryson DeChambeau has expressed support and met with investors, while the DP World Tour is banning LIV players starting in 2027, requiring membership applications by November 16 to avoid double-dipping.
