Legendary instructor Butch Harmon has shared insights regarding how Tiger Woods completely rebuilt his golf swing following his dominant Masters victory in 1997. Despite capturing his first eight majors under Harmon and securing the historic Tiger Slam in 2001, Woods spent all of 1998 working through extensive mechanical adjustments that temporarily limited him to just one tournament win that year.
Harmon noted that the greatest player in history dedicated immense effort to perfecting the overhaul, spending roughly seven months before feeling completely comfortable with the new motion.
According to Harmon, everyday golfers taking lessons can benefit directly from the specific technique Woods relied on during this development phase. The routine involved executing thousands of practice shots using a deliberate slow motion swing to train the hands, arms, and body rotation into correct alignment.
Harmon explained that practicing at a reduced speed offers amateurs an ideal method to physically experience the precise positions required for lasting improvement.
