LSU head coach Lane Kiffin’s frustration with officiating resurfaced after a 31-0 shutout win over Mississippi State, despite the Tigers’ dominant performance. The victory followed a controversial 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky, where Kiffin criticized multiple calls, including a disputed false-start penalty on Kentucky’s game-winning two-point conversion.
He also questioned a late first-half play where officials allowed a Kentucky touchdown despite LSU defenders’ efforts to stop it, later claiming a line judge cited ‘too much at stake’ as the reason for the non-call. Kiffin’s outburst highlighted ongoing tensions with the SEC’s officiating decisions, which he argued remain opaque to teams.
Meanwhile, LSU’s offense and defense showed improvement, with quarterback Sam Leavitt throwing four touchdown passes without turnovers for the first time this season, while the defense stifled Mississippi State entirely. Injuries, however, continued to disrupt the lineup, forcing Kiffin to rely on inexperienced backups.
