Hamilton Southeastern made history in Indiana high school tennis, capturing their first-ever state championship with a dominant 4-1 victory over No. 6 Delta in the finals.
The Royals, ranked No. 1, secured their title at the Barbara Wynne Tennis Center, marking just their second appearance in the state finals after falling short in the semifinals last year.
Their path to the championship included a 3-2 semifinal win over No. 5 South Bend Saint Joseph and a 4-1 quarterfinal triumph over No.
2 Zionsville, capping off a 22-game winning streak that began after an early-season loss to eventual champion Carmel. The team’s success hinged on standout performances from freshmen and sophomores, including No.
1 singles player Abhi Manikandan, who posted straight-set wins in both the championship and semifinals, and the doubles duo of Brady Stump and Logan Foust, who improved to 22-2 on the season with a decisive 6-1, 7-5 win over Delta’s top pair. Coach Doug Gemert credited the team’s focus and unity, particularly after shifting Stump from singles to doubles—a move that proved pivotal as the duo advanced to the individual doubles finals next weekend as the top seed.
