The SEC suffered a historic collapse as its top three ranked programs all fell in a single weekend, with unranked Florida defeating No. 7 Texas 27-24 and No.
14 Tennessee beating No. 6 Alabama 26-10, while Auburn also upset No.
1 Georgia 27-24. These results follow a previous week in which Georgia edged Alabama 20-17 and Texas lost 27-24 to Oklahoma, marking the second consecutive week an SEC team lost the No.
1 ranking. The current standings show Texas at 4-2, Alabama at 5-2, and Georgia at 6-1, with the latter two teams now facing the prospect of a 24-team playoff format to mitigate the damage of such a volatile schedule.
Offensive struggles defined the losses, particularly for Texas, which has been outscored 34-14 in the second half over its last two games. Quarterback Arch Manning, who threw two interceptions against Oklahoma and suffered a costly fumble with two minutes remaining against Florida, faces scrutiny from coach Steve Sarkisian, who stated that all aspects of the offense are under evaluation.
Meanwhile, Alabama recorded its first back-to-back losses since 2013, dropping a third consecutive matchup at Neyland Stadium where quarterback Keelon Russell managed only four passing yards by the end of the game.
